Alok Avasthi is the Dean, Management Studies and is responsible for Masters Programme in Hospitality Management.
While Alok recently entered the academic world at IHM -A, he joined Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi in 1985 and developed his career with Taj Group of Hotels working in the hotels at Delhi and at the corporate office in Mumbai. During his stint with the Taj Group, he was selected by the French Government to receive scholarship for pursuing Masters in International Hospitality Management in France. The programme at IMHI was jointly administered by ESSEC Business School in France and Cornell University School of Hotel Administration (SHA) in USA. While at ESSEC in France, he was selected for the Cornell Exchange Program to complete one semester at the SHA in Ithaca, USA where apart from The Hotel School, he got opportunity to take courses also at Cornell University SC Johnson Graduate School of Management. Taj Group also identified him as a high performer and selected him to pursue residential General Management Programme at the prestigious IIM, Bangalore and to attend Tata Group Executive Leadership Seminar for senior Tata executives at Tata Management Training Centre, Pune where key sessions were conducted by guru of strategy, Prof. C. K. Prahalad. Alok Avasthi’s last posting before joining IHM – Aurangabad in 2015 was, Director, Operations for Taj Luxury Hotels (International).
An industry veteran associated with the Taj Group for 30 years before joining IHM – Aurangabad in 2015, Alok Avasthi brings a practitioner’s perspective to academia and is developing research interests in the area of General Management, Corporate Strategy and Governance.
